The DJI Mavic 3T’s camera is the star of the show, especially its thermal sensor. The thermal camera resolution is 640 x 512 pixels, which provides clear thermal images, making it easy to spot heat sources during search and rescue missions or inspections.

One feature I particularly love is the point and area temperature measurement, which helps you quickly find hot spots, whether it’s a fire or an overheating machine. 

Additionally, it offers high-temperature alerts and customizable color palettes, so you can switch between views that are best suited for the situation. The isotherms feature also makes it simple to track temperature variations across a scene.

Besides thermal imaging, the Mavic 3T has a 48MP wide camera and a 12MP zoom camera that allows 56× hybrid zoom. This zoom function is incredible for inspecting distant objects without having to fly the drone too close. But I didn’t like the clarity at higher zoom levels! 

The side-by-side zoom and thermal view is a great touch, making it easy to compare thermal and regular images simultaneously.

This camera setup makes the Mavic 3T not just a drone for thermal tasks but an all-rounder for various inspection and rescue missions.

Flight Time

The 45-minute flight time is quite rare among thermal drone. With a single flight, you can cover up to 2 square kilometers, saving yourself from having to stop and recharge frequently.

And when you do need to recharge, the fast charging hub is a lifesaver – getting the batteries charged quickly so you can get back in the air. Awesome!

Its 48MP visual camera ensures high-quality photos and videos, while the 1/2” CMOS sensor provides excellent detail in various lighting conditions.

The camera supports up to 32x digital zoom, with 4x lossless zoom, allowing you to capture essential details from a safe distance. 

The dual-vision system lets you switch between visual, thermal, or split-view feeds to suit the task at hand. The thermal sensor has a resolution of 640 x 512 pixels and supports features like Spot Meter and Area Measurement, ensuring accurate thermal readings on-site.

Flight Time

With a flight time ranging from 24 to 31 minutes, the M2EA offers sufficient duration for most missions, whether it’s firefighting, search and rescue, or law enforcement operations. 

The self-heating batteries ensure optimal performance in colder environments, maintaining a steady power supply during critical moments.

While the flight time may vary depending on weather conditions, the average duration is more than enough for completing complex tasks.

Flight Range

The Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced’s 10 km range feels quite limited for the demanding tasks it’s built for. While it covers decent ground, it’s frustrating that in more expansive missions, you may quickly reach the edge of the range. 

For jobs that require wider coverage, this short range could be a real setback.

Obstacle Avoidance

The M2EA features omnidirectional obstacle sensing is just okay for me, providing at least the required safety and precision during flight.

This obstacle detection system ensures the drone can navigate safely through complex environments, such as urban landscapes or densely forested areas. 

The obstacle sensing feature could have been designed in a more advanced manner to increase the operator’s confidence, reducing the risk of collisions even in high-stress situations.

Verdict

The DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced is an incredibly versatile tool, ideal for emergency services, law enforcement, and inspection missions.

Its combination of high-resolution thermal and visual cameras, along with its lightweight design, makes it a powerful yet portable option.

Its hot-swappable battery feature complements this flight duration, allowing continuous operation without significant downtime. 

While achieving the full 31 minutes may require optimal conditions, the hot-swappable batteries ensure efficiency by letting pilots switch batteries mid-flight without delays. 

This makes SIRAS a versatile drone for critical tasks that require sustained aerial presence, such as firefighting or large-scale inspections.

Flight Range

To my surprise, the SIRAS doesn’t specify an exact flight distance, but its dual-band 2.4/5.8 GHz transmission ensures a reliable connection in various environments.

This allows you to maintain control even when flying near obstacles or in signal-heavy areas, offering flexibility in complex environments like cities, forests, or industrial areas. 

Although its exact range might be unknown, the strong connectivity combined with the drone’s advanced sensors ensures that it performs reliably in critical missions.

Obstacle Avoidance

Omnidirectional obstacle avoidance is missing in the SIRAS. But luckily, it compensates for it with radar-based front collision avoidance, enhancing its ability to safely navigate complex environments. I’d still recommend getting your SIRAS insured by a reliable drone insurance company. 

This system provides decent obstacle detection, if not the best, day or night, and helps prevent accidents during high-stakes missions.

While the radar-based system is limited to front-facing sensors, it still significantly enhances safety during forward flight operations. 

This is particularly useful for law enforcement or search-and-rescue teams who need to focus on the mission rather than manual navigation.

Verdict

The Teledyne FLIR SIRAS is an affordable, professional option with outstanding thermal and visible imaging capabilities. Despite its heavier build and front-only obstacle avoidance, it’s a secure, high-performance option for industrial inspections, firefighting, and law enforcement, delivering reliable results without compromising data security.

This extended flight time is particularly useful for large-scale asset inspections, security patrols, or search-and-rescue operations, allowing you to cover vast areas without frequent battery swaps. 

While the drone’s flight distance is capped at 6 km, which is slightly shorter than some other professional drones, the X2 makes up for it with its autonomous navigation system, which ensures that you can rely on it to safely and effectively carry out missions within that range.

As just discussed, the Skydio X2 has a maximum flight range of 6 kilometers, which is decent for most professional applications, such as situational awareness or security patrols.
