Battery Life

The Holy Stone HS900 uses an intelligent Modular Rechargeable Battery, a 7.7V Li-ion battery with a 2250mAh capacity and a 30-minute flight time. HS900 is available in dual and triple-battery kits.

Its dual-battery version includes two batteries and offers 56 minutes, while its triple-battery version provides 84 minutes with three batteries and has a landing pad in its package.

The lightweight battery weighs 83.2g, so it doesn’t significantly impact the drone’s weight. A lightweight drone gives you more flight flexibility and free control and eliminates the FAA registration requirement by keeping the weight below 250g.

Battery replacement is relatively easy; you only need to align it with the drone’s interface when installing. During disassembling, press the bottom button, grasp the battery’s head, and pull it.

The battery charges with a USB-C cable and takes 1.33 hours to charge fully. However, you can use the Holy Stone Advanced Intelligent Charging Hub for super quick charging in about 1.16 hours.

Never use the battery in a rainy or damp environment, as it can lead to combustion or exploding. It’s also forbidden to use it if it has a dent.

Camera Quality

Impressive camera quality is one outstanding feature that separates the HS900 from all other Holy Stone models. It’s a professional-grade camera that captures high-quality shots.

The HS900 camera features a Sony 1/2.3″ 48MP CMOS sensor with an f/2.6 fixed-focus, offering sharp videos and photos and a 100-degree field of view.

Image resolution is another plus. The overall image quality is excellent, with the camera shooting 4K at 30fps and 1080P at 60fps videos and capturing 48MP photos.

When set to manual or auto exposure, the HS900 drone camera captures remarkably detailed images, especially in bright conditions.

However, the white balance is slightly strange because its presets are slightly off. The auto option provides the best results but isn’t always perfect.

Additionally, the HS900 camera has a 3-axis Brushless Gimbal that enhances level 5 wind resistance. It ensures steady and smooth recording even in 38 kph winds.

Flight Time

With the efficient 30-minute flight time, you can capture stunning images for about 28 minutes.

However, some customers report having had an average flight time of about 22 minutes in moderate to breezy wind when the GPS began the Return-to-Home journey at 20% charge.

The dual (two batteries) and triple (three batteries) versions offer more extended flights of about 56 (28 mins x 2)  and 84 (28 mins x 3 )minutes, respectively. They’re ideal when conducting time-consuming tasks or when you want to spend more time flying.

Flight Range

The Holy Stone HS900 features an upgraded intelligent control system that offers a 6km transmission range in ideal conditions. Thus, it can reliably fly farther and record data on a broader area.

Even better, this control system is significantly more substantial than the Wi-Fi connection, offering robust anti-interference compatibility and enhanced transmission.

Speed and Maneuverability

My top-picked drone’s flight speed varies in different flight modes. Its maximum speed is 31 mph in the Sport mode, while it flies up to 11 mph and 22 mph in Stable and Normal modes, respectively.

Its specific speed in a particular mode depends on the prevailing circumstances, where the speed is more in ideal conditions.

Although the HS900 drone is small and lightweight, it can withstand level 5 winds and fly up to 24 mph.

The HS900 has smooth and responsive flight controls, allowing it to record smooth videos. However, a drone pilot’s skill and ability to make smooth maneuvers also come in handy.

Its 30-90-degree gimbal tilt allows for slight upward shooting and straight downward. You can incorporate the gimbal into maneuvers for more dynamic videos.

Obstacle Avoidance

The biggest downside of the best Holy Stone drone, the HS900, is the lack of a reliable obstacle avoidance system. Hence, ensure maximum care when conducting flights near objects and people.

However, the drone has a downward vision system that detects the surface in case GPS is unavailable, such as during indoor flights.

Be careful when using automated flight mode and subject tracking to prevent collision.

Ease of Use

Whether a beginner or a professional, the HS900 allows you to control its movements and enjoy stunning views effortlessly. Its simple operations allow beginners to fly it easily, boosting their confidence.

The Holy Stone Sirius App features easy-to-use filming templates that allow you to take quick shots and generate professional videos you can instantly share on social media.

The HS900’s enhanced GPS Positioning System promotes more intelligent and accurate visual object tracking. Its Return-to-Home function safely returns your gadget to its takeoff point.

Value for Money

The Holy Stone HS900 offers value for money. Its overall performance is the best among the brand’s drones.

It also offers outstanding quality at UHD 4K at 30fps and FHD 1080P at 60fps. Its 6km signal transmission range is ideal for missions in vast, unreachable spaces.

The drone’s 30-minute flight time is sufficient and efficient, with the double and triple battery versions offering more extended flights.

Its smooth flight controls, automated flight patterns, GPS and Return-to-Home functions, and subject-tracking system ensure a fantastic flight experience.

What Online Customers Say:

“This holy stone is rock solid. it’s the best drone i own, and i have several. superb. i couldn’t find a drone costing twice as much and flying any better. i fly it every day. the camera is great. i’m happy with the purchase. thanks so much.”

Battery Life

The HS720G is powered by a 7.7V Intelligent Li-Po battery with a 2950 mAh capacity, which offers 26 minutes of flight per charge. It comes with two rechargeable batteries, which give 52-minute flights.

Each battery weighs 119.8g and takes about five hours to charge an empty one fully.

The 7.7V 2950mAh Intelligent Li-Po has overcharge protection capabilities that limit voltage or current to an acceptable amount.

It also has an over-discharge feature that monitors cell voltage and disconnects current before reaching the minimum safe voltage.

Below are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Never puncture, disassemble, crash, overcharge, or put the battery into water or fire
  • Charge the battery in intervals when not in use for long to prevent low-charge bloating
  • Only use the original USB charging cable
  • Store the battery in a cool, dry place

Camera Quality

Regarding image quality, this model provides impressive photos and videos within its price range.

The drone’s 1/2.3-inch 12MP Sony sensor shoots 4K videos at 30 fps. Its 4K capability has 3840×216 pixels, which enhances clarity by providing detailed imagery for creative shooting.

The Holy Stone app lets you choose between 4K videos at 30fps and 1080P at 60fps storage pixels. The latter option makes your videos more attractive by ensuring slow motion.

Additionally, the camera offers a dual anti-shake configuration. Its 2-axis motorized gimbal and 4K EIS (Electric Image Stabilization) feature a vivid bird’ s-eye view and stunning images. The gimbal enhances camera stability, while EIS promotes image clarity by making timely corrections.

The remote 90° camera angle and 120° FOV significantly extend your field of vision, ensuring comprehensive coverage and capturing impressive images.

You can employ up to 5x digital zoom to enhance the object’s closeness.

Despite the fantastic features, some customers say the camera quality is unsuitable for professional use. They also note that video quality is superior to photo quality.

Flight Time

The Holy Stone HS720 G offers a 26-minute flight time, allowing you to capture stunning images of your surroundings. However, the intelligent Li-Po battery offers this maximum flight duration in ideal conditions, such as low winds.

Hence, there are reported cases of flight times as low as 21 minutes, which most likely result from poor weather conditions.

One customer reports having flown for only 16 minutes when the drone was restricted to a 100m range and 30 m altitude. It took another 5 minutes, and the RTH function was automatically activated.

Fortunately, the dual battery version offers a 52-minute flight time in optimum conditions to enjoy longer flights.

Flight Range

With the 999m remote control range, the HS720G offers adequate exploration flexibility as you capture your target scenarios. The range allows you to unleash your creative photography vision.

Surprisingly, some customers report to have experienced up to 1100m of flight time. Note that over 400m, the Wi-Fi FPV may cause interruptions on your mobile phone.

Also, the HS720G manual indicates that you should unfold the antennas to achieve maximum range. That requires a 5G 802.11 ac Wi-Fi-fitted mobile tablet or smartphone.

Speed and Maneuverability

There isn’t any available information about Holy Stone HS720G’s speed. The drone operates in Sports and Tripod modes, but the latter compares closely to DJI models’ Sports (19m/s) and Cine modes (12m/s).

According to one customer, the drone’s maximum wind speed is 7m/s in Tripod mode and  20m/s in Sports (it can reduce up to 13.4m/s in wind gusts).

The drone gets into the air and starts maneuvering within a short while.

Obstacle Avoidance

The HS720G has no obstacle avoidance system. Hence, you should fly it in a broad, open area to minimize the risk of collision.

Ease of Use

One of the HS720G’s strengths is its ease of use. It offers 3× precision stability systems: GPS, Glonass, and Optical Flow Positioning.

The triple positioning system enhances beginner friendliness by ensuring stable flights, precise localization, and intelligent flying assistance. These features are also vital in professional aerial photography.

GPS assistance safe flight enables the automatic RTH function in one key when your drone loses the transmitter’s signals or upon low power.

Due to its intuitive control system, the HS720G has a simple learning curve and a straightforward setup. It’s a convenient drone for all user levels.

Value for Money

Exceptional performance and advanced features give you value for your money. The drone model offers flight stability, ease of use, and quick responsiveness.

A drone with such standards could be significantly more expensive, but the HS720G has a competitive price.

The only major downside is the limited flight range.

What Online Customers Say:

“I was a bit reluctant to buy a drone due to how difficult they are normally to set up. This one was very easy, though. In a few minutes, it was flying, and it worked perfectly. Also, photos and videos are of high quality. Great value for money.”

Battery Life

Also known as SpyDI, the Holy Stone HS360S uses a 7.4V (2s) lithium-ion polymer battery with 1500 mAh, which provides 20 minutes of uninterrupted flight per charge.

The battery life may be shorter due to unfavorable weather conditions such as strong wind and snow.

Its weight is 71g, which has an insignificant impact on the drone’s weight and, hence, keeps it out of the Remote ID FAA registration requirement.

The drone battery pack includes a power button, a Type C USB charging port, and four blue charging level indicators. Holy Stone lacks a dedicated charger, but you can use a free USB port or phone charger.

Unfortunately, the drone doesn’t support fast-charging PD ports, which take less than an hour to charge.

Also, a reviewer notes that the drone has a poor low-charge indicator that sends a warning when the power is almost out and starts the RTH process immediately. That exposes the drone to collision or crashing risks.

Camera Quality

Regarding image quality, HS360S features a 4K UHD camera: a 4K camera angled 85 degrees, adjusted within 90 degrees (by the app or remote control), and a 1/3″ CMOS Galaycore sensor.

The camera displays your creativity in a new perspective by capturing videos at 4K at 20fps in MP4 or AVI formats and photos at 3840×2160P in JPG format.

The HS360S camera’s automatic functionality is well-suited to beginners.

Its limitations make it unsuitable for professionals. The shortcomings include extremely heavy video and photo processing, which results in a lack of fine details and moderate barrel distortion on a projected camera.

Also, image stabilization is lacking, leading to shaky footage and unlevel horizon exhibition, depending on the wind’s strength.

Flight Time

The powerful modular battery gives you exploration freedom with its 20-minute flight time from each of the two batteries. The duration may be shorter in extreme weather conditions, but the dual battery version sorts that out with double power capacity.

Flight Range

The HS360S offers a 3km relay image transmission. This range allows you to unlock unlimited potential with the long flight range featuring added wired connection reliability and brushless motors.

It also enhances your aerial experience and captures extraordinary with smooth control and accuracy.

Speed and Maneuverability

There is no advertised maximum flight speed for the HS360S. However, one user recorded approximately 17.25 mph horizontal speed and 9.6 mph for the camera mode maximum speed.

You can adjust the speed to obtain different maximum values from a fill tilt on the right joystick. When you short-press the maximum speed button, the maximum value changes from camera to normal to sport modes.

On the other hand, you can change drone operations from GPS to altitude mode by long-pressing the maximum speed button. The Altitude mode has many limitations as it doesn’t automatically level the drone, making it much harder to control.

Obstacle Avoidance

The Holy Stone HS360s do not have an obstacle avoidance system, so the drone is prone to collisions. Therefore, it is best to fly it in open spaces and be more careful during flights.

Ease of Use

Most customers are impressed by the single-button takeoff and landing. The drone is easy to control and fun to fly.

Its GPS functionality increases precise positioning, enhancing your flying experience by providing stable fights and a safe return to the takeoff point during connectivity failure or low battery moments.

Point of Interest, Waypoint Flight, and Follow Me functions also improve your flights.

The advanced connection technology lets you connect your smartphone to the controller with one data cable to enjoy real-time image streaming without Wi-Fi.

Intelligent recording modes, such as 1-Tap Ascension, Catapult, and Spiral Up, make filming easier with one tap.

Value for Money

The SpyDI offers value for money by balancing functionality and affordability. Hence, it’s ideal for beginners and hobbyists seeking an affordable entry-level drone.

It combines the ease of use with features found in more expensive drones, making it the go-to option for first-time drone owners.

However, you may need a higher-end model for professional shooting and extended flight times.

What Online Customers Say:

“This is my first time buying a drone, and I have no experience using one. It was very easy and fun. The fact that there is a beginner mode so you don’t get overwhelmed by how high or how far it’s going was a big help in learning to use the controls. It has a good response time. GPS did good. It was breezy, and it did fine. I wish the battery had lasted longer. I used 15-20 minutes to learn how to control it. The pictures were good for the value. Overall, when you combine all the other features of the HS360S, this drone is of great value.”

– Amazon Consumer.

Battery Life

The Holy Stone HS175D uses a 7.6V Li-Po rechargeable battery with a 1700 mAh capacity that ensures extended remote control (RC) flights without frequent charges.

With its dual modular batteries, you can enjoy long flights of up to 46 minutes while capturing your surroundings. Each battery’s charging time is 150 minutes.

These batteries are highly versatile. They’re also compatible with A560 fixed-wing transmitters and RC8x, improving your RC adventure.

Each battery weighs about 92g, which doesn’t negatively impact the HS175D model’s weight regarding the FAA weight cap. The lightweight nature enhances agility and maneuverability.

Camera Quality

Although Holy Stone advertises the HS175D as a 4K drone with an ultra-clear camera, its performance indicates otherwise. It’s more of a 2.7K. Even so, I find it okay for entry-level drone fliers.

The HS175D camera records videos at 2688x1512P for the TF card option and 1920x1080P on your mobile phone. It also lets you capture 4096x3072P photos on the TF card and 4096x3072P on a mobile phone.

The drone provides high-resolution images with the FOV 110° lens and an angle tilt range of 0° to -90°.

Its 5Ghz FPV frequency delivers smooth and stable footage in strong-wind conditions and high speed. The feature boosts beginners’ confidence when flying in these extreme conditions.

Flight Time

Holy Stone’s HS175D model boasts 46 minutes of flight time. The drone uses dual modular batteries, each offering a 26-minute flight per charge.

The duration is perfect for the drone category as it’s slightly above the average flight time for commercial drones, which is 25-45 minutes. Thus, you get enough time for leisurely fun.

Flight Range

With the 2.4GHz transmitter, the HS175D offers a maximum flight distance of 500 meters – outdoors and unobstructed.

Its 5GHz FPV image transmission feature gives you unmatched views. It ensures smooth and stable live video streaming through the app.

Hence, you can enjoy a real-time, live aerial viewpoint on your smartphone to enhance your flying experience.

The HS175D’s flight altitude is 100m. However, it has a beginner-friendly mode with a maximum flight distance and altitude of 30m each.

Speed and Maneuverability

Although Holy Stone hasn’t provided information about the HS175D’s expected maximum speed, reviewers report an average speed (about 20m/s) in windy conditions.

The drone’s maneuverability is excellent because meaningful maneuvers are easy to make, even without the first-person view.

Obstacle Avoidance

The HS175D doesn’t have an obstacle avoidance function. As a beginner drone, this poses collision detection challenges, minimizing the starter pilot’s flying confidence.

Hence, you should be extra careful of your surroundings and fly your drone in open spaces, preferably away from people and objects.

Ease of Use

Easy controls are a vital feature that makes the HS175D a beginner-friendly drone. Most starters are impressed by the easy learning path and the intuitive and responsive controls, which result in fun-filled flying.

The drone also provides flight stability and quality images, good enough for its category.

Its GPS and Return to Home functions enhance a fantastic flying experience, while its dual battery versions give you sufficient exploration time.

The HS175’s high durability is perfect for beginners, who will likely crash the gadget on trees and objects, as the drone doesn’t have an obstacle-avoidance function.

Value for Money

The Holy Stone HS175D drone offers value for money. Although it lacks advanced features, it serves the purpose of an entry-level drone exceptionally well.

The dual battery system’s 46 minutes of flight time allows you to take excellent shots, even if they are not professional-grade.

The brushless motors enhance efficiency, precise control, and durability and provide beginners with a reliable and user-friendly experience.

What Online Customers Say:

“Durable and sturdy, this is my first time owning and operating a drone, and I found it a great learning tool. I had a few bangs, but I haven’t had to replace any parts (some of which come included). It’s a great unit and excellent value for money. It works well in the wind as well. The two batteries included are what sold me. I have no regrets.”

Battery Life

Also known as Polaris Ultimate, the Holy Stone HS720R is powered by a 7.7V Li-Po battery with a 2950 mAh capacity. In optimum conditions, it can fly for 26 minutes.

The upgraded intelligent battery and the advanced control system ensure reliability as you fly farther and record more.

However, there’s a slight difference on the ground. In summer, the drone may initiate the return home journey after 24 minutes of flight time. While that indicates the advertised flight time is reliable, the battery life may be shorter in extreme weather conditions.

Once the 2950 mAh 7.7V Li-Po battery reaches about 30-40%, its altitude and distance are limited to 120m and 300m, respectively.

The battery uses a USB-C cable and takes five hours to charge fully. Hence, purchasing another battery or two for longer flights is advisable.

Camera Quality

The HS720R is Holy Stone’s professional drone model. Its camera has a dual anti-shake configuration (a 3-axis Gimbal and electronic image stabilization (EIS)) that ensures stunning, professional-grade shots.

Polaris Ultimate’s anti-shake feature ensures an unshakable view by providing a steady and smooth view in dynamic maneuvers and high-speed winds.

The drone features a 1/3” CMOS Sony Sensor and a 4K camera (wide-angled 140°). It shoots HD 4K videos at 30 fps and 3840X2160P Photos with a TF Card. The video quality is slightly better than the photo quality, but that’s common among cheap beginner drones.

It also generates professional photos using Time Lapse Photography technology.

Even so, the image quality is lower than other drones in its class, which is the trend among the Holy Stone drone models. Despite the wide FOV, a strong barrel distortion occurs when you pitch (tilt downward) the drone. As a result, chromatic aberration appears along the subject edges.

Also, the gimbal moves 0-70 degrees instead of extending to 90 degrees. Hence, you can’t point it straight downward.

Flight Time

The flight time of Polaris Ultimate is 26 minutes in ideal conditions. However, the duration reduces if you fly your drone in unfavorable conditions, such as icy seasons.

Since commercial drones have at least 25 minutes of flight per charge, the model’s 26-minute flight duration is excellent for your professional aerial videos and photos.

Flight Range

With the WiFi repeater technology, HS720R offers a 3km range for image transmission. It features powerful brushless motors and an upgraded remote control, which enhances the long-range transmission.

Beginners can now have a more reliable flying experience with the improved transmission.

Speed and Maneuverability

Holy Stone hasn’t provided information about HS720R’s top speed. However, a reviewer reported a 7m/s maximum speed for Mode 1, 20m/s for Mode 2, and a 13.4m/s wind speed.

The drone has easy controls and high maneuverability but with some drag.

Obstacle Avoidance

The HS720R doesn’t have obstacle-avoidance capabilities. That may keep the drone on a lower edge than its competitors, which have obstacle-detecting sensors.

Ease of Use

Polaris Ultimate is easy to use for drone users of all skill levels. It’s easy to set up, has helpful features, and the brand provides all the necessary directions.

The drone’s app is straightforward, and the controls are pretty responsive.

Moreover, HS720R’s one-key takeoff eases the ‘getting started’ process. It has a simple Wi-Fi connection and is easy to connect to your phone.

The absence of obstacle avoidance is a significant downside, as obstacle detection is challenging.

Value for Money

Holy Stone’s HS720R offers value for money. Its camera is of good quality for the price, and the gimbal enhances image positioning.

The upgraded battery is excellent for an extended and more reliable flight time. Its 3km range gives you enough exploration space for aerial photography missions.

What Online Customers Say:

“I purchased this a year ago as my first drone, and honestly, I didn’t need to upgrade to a DJI. This drone is wonderful and incredibly easy to fly and learn on. In my opinion, the upgraded battery was worth it. That is the only upgrade I have, though. I think I would buy two extra batteries because it’s a ton of fun to fly and takes great videos, so I could spend hours flying out.”

– Mathew from Amazon.

Factors to Consider When Buying the Best Holy Stone Drone

Consider the following factors when buying the best Holy Stone drone:

  • Intended operation: Choose a drone that suits your intended purpose. Holy Stone drone models are designed for photography, videography, racing, and stunts.

Photography and videography-designed drones are built for stability and smooth footage, while the racing lot is designed for speed and maneuverability.

  • Weight and size: A drone’s weight and size impact its speed and maneuverability. For instance, a racing drone should be as lightweight as possible to enhance speed and efficiency and minimize damage in case of a crash.

Heavier drones often have more features, but drone manufacturers are also doing their best to fit high-end features while making drones light. That’s why a sub-250 grams drone will be good enough for some tasks.

If you want to avoid registration and other restrictions that come with heavier drones, you can choose a light drone. Only go for heavier drones when it’s necessary.

  • Drone type: Some Holy Stone drones have built-in cameras mounted on the body, while others have detachable ones fixed via a gimbal system.

Unless you want to mount another camera, the cameras mounted on the Holy Stone drones are good enough for most tasks.

  • Battery life: Holy Stone drones have a considerable flight time ranging from 20 minutes to 30 minutes, though various factors like weather and battery health are always in play. Regardless of the model you choose, getting extra batteries is always ideal.

  • Build-up quality: The best Holy Stone drones are made of high-quality materials and have features that enhance maneuverability and ease of use.

Research online, enquire with drone enthusiasts, and try various models before purchasing to get the best.

Wrap Up

If you are looking for your first drone or want to try out a different brand, this  list provides the best drones from Holy Stone Various, which you can choose from depending on your needs.

The Holy Stone HS900 is my best overall choice. It has an high-quality camera, excellent signal transmission range, and a significantly extended dual-battery flight time. Its speed is also good.

Additionally, the HS900 is easy for all skill-level pilots to use and offers value for money. It has no FAA registration requirements since its weight is below the 250g cap.
