A rock-solid product from the reliable stable of Power Wheels, the Jeep Wrangler makes me want to be a kid again! The car comes well packaged with parts and decals neatly organized.

It took me and hubby around two hours to assemble it but that’s because my little one kept messing up the attachments! You should be able to do it in around 90 minutes. The instructions manual does a good job of explaining where each part goes. So, there shouldn’t be any trouble with the assembly at all.

The styling is very impressive with a grille, roll bars, and fenders that resemble the real deal. Meant for kids aged 3-7 years, the car is capable of carrying 58kg.

And there’s plenty of space in it too. Two 3-year-olds can easily sit with room to spare. The little space at the back is a nice touch and can store toys etc.

It comes with a 12V rechargeable battery that lasts a few hours (charger included). The charging time is around 18 hours on the first charge. However, I wish they had provided 24V batteries to increase the driving time.

There are two forward speeds – 5 mph and 2.5 mph.

Since we have a large yard, I appreciate the multi-terrain feature. The car rides well on grass and bumpy roads as well. I’d recommend being careful on inclines or wet grass though as it could slip (although I haven’t faced any incidents).

The safety features include high-speed lockout and power-lock brake system. Let me simplify that for you. The high-speed lock means you can set the desired speed and your child won’t be able to override it. The power-lock brake automatically stops the vehicle if your child’s foot comes off the pedal.

Another noteworthy thing is that replacement parts are easily available for all Power Wheels products on the website. And we all know that is much needed when kids are handling something!

The one thing I found lacking in this car was the seat belt. I feel a company like Fischer Price could have provided that or at least given an option for adding it later.

Oh, and I would have also appreciated it if this was remote-controlled just for extra assurance. Although all my kid’s rides are chaperoned this isn’t too big a worry.

Verdict:

A cool outdoor option for kids who enjoy an adventure. I would recommend this car especially if you have outdoor space and are looking for a safe ride for your child.

What Customers are Saying –

“We bought this Power Wheels (the red jeep) for our 2.5 year old daughter who became VERY interested in driving- wanting to drive my and my husband’s car. This is the next best thing and it has been her favorite ‘toy’ to play with all summer. Nearly everyday she wants to ‘ride my Jeep.’ This has been a great purchase!”

If you are keen on an option that doesn’t burn a hole in the pocket then the Licensed Bentley EXP12 Kids Ride is one of the best electric vehicles for children. With a 4.6 rating on Amazon, this fancy ride is the best value for your money.

Meant for kids aged 36 months to 6 years, this car is easy to assemble except for the wiring bit! As another parent tells me, it takes some time to plug the wires correctly under the seat.

The styling is top notch with the two opening scissor doors stealing the spotlight. It also features LED front and rear lights which are a good touch. Add to that, the realistic engine sounds which make it feel like a miniature Bentley! It has a speed range of 1.25 to 3.1 mph when going forward, and 1.25mph in reverse.

And did I mention the MP3 plugin with volume control, USB interface, and SD card slot? It’s a real treat for kids to hear Baby Shark or their favorite rhyme singing out of the stereo. For me, this feature makes this car a great package at this price.

It has a 12 V battery which lasts about an hour plus on a full charge. And if your kid is too little to reach the pedal, you can use the remote to move them around. Unlike the Power Wheels Jeep, the manufacturers have taken care to include seat belts here.

The downside is that the car is meant for one only with a weight capacity of 66 lbs. Also, I doubt it can accommodate a 7-year-old, which is the advertised age limit. Given the speed and safety features, it would be best for kids up to 4 years.

Verdict:

You get more than you pay for with this little Bentley. The size, features, and built quality make it the best budget electric car for your child.

What Customers are Saying –

“Great little car I bought it for my grandaughter for her 1st birthday it arrived on time and was easy to assemble she absolutely loves it. Her parents love driving her around in it while she beeps the horn and jams to baby shark. She also loves the “push to start” and is obsessed with closing her door. I was really pleased with this purchase I got way more than I expected at this price point. I waited to review until we saw how it performed but it is still running great and it holds a charge well and she uses it quite a bit!!!”

I couldn’t leave this cutie out of the best electric cars for kids review. I first saw it with my niece and immediately bought it for my 1-year-old! The build quality is durable and I can say that because my second child used it too after 4 years.

The assembly is super easy, taking no more than 30 minutes. There are no pedals on this car but a joystick that the child can use to move it around. It’s a great way to develop your little one’s motor skills I’d say.

If you are worried about damaging furniture then the foam bumper should ease you. The car can safely be driven inside a room and also makes funny noises each time it bumps against something. You can turn off this feature though as it may get annoying after a while!

The 6 V battery is rechargeable but does not last very long. Expect about 20-25 minutes on a full charge. This makes drone batteries a lot better than electric cars batteries. Also, I had to replace it twice within a year which wasn’t a very pleasant experience.

Besides the joystick, there is a parental remote control that can override the joystick’s maneuvering. That’s a good thing with a toddler because it gives them the impression of driving while you safely navigate them around the house.

Since it is meant for toddlers, the maximum speed is just 2 MPH. The car can also spin 360 degrees and this feature is sure to elicit joyous laughs! The maximum weight capacity for the car is 19kg.

Verdict:

One of the best electric cars for toddlers who are curious about everything! The foam bumpers and override remote control will offer you peace of mind as your little one drives their way around.

Best Farm Truck: Peg Perego John Deere Gator XUV

This one’s for the adventurous kids and the great outdoors! The Peg Perego John Deere Gator is among the best electric toy cars for kids who would like to emulate adults working on a farm.

I helped a friend put this together and boy is the assembly a task! It comes in several pieces and the instruction manual isn’t very helpful. We tried a bit of reverse engineering and some lucky guesses later the XUV was ready to go.

The body and tires are sturdy and the camouflage stickers give it the appearance of a true off-roading vehicle. The large dump bed can hold plenty of toys or leaves of the little one is helping out in the yard. The opening tailgate makes for a fun activity for the children.

The XUV is meant for ages 3-8 with a weight capacity of 130 lbs. I like the provision for seat adjustment that supports the age bracket the manufacturers have given.

It runs on a rechargeable 12V battery with an excellent battery life. You will have to recharge for at least 12 hours though to get a full charge. I’d say it tops the best 12V electric cars for kids category when it comes to battery.

There are two speeds: 2 ¼ – 4 ½ mph and a reverse gear as well. I would be skeptical about giving it to a 3-year-old without adequate supervision since the speeds are quite fast and there is no remote control. I also miss that it doesn’t have any sound effects or lights, unlike other children’s ride-on electric vehicles.

Verdict:

Overall, if you can spare $499 on an electric car and have adequate space, then this truck is a good buy for kids above 4 years of age.

What Customers are Saying –

“This was my son’s favorite birthday gift! It has a long lasting battery. The seatbelts are great for littles riding in it. The tilt bed was fun to empty dirt when helping in the yard. Easy to follow instructions for assembly. No weather fading. It’s still running strong.”

Buying Guide for Kids Electric Cars

Take into account the following factors before you purchase a ride for your kids:

Age

When purchasing an electric car adhere to the age limit given by the manufacturer. This ensures that the car has the right speed, height, controls, and power to suit your child’s age. After all, safety comes first!

Battery & Power

Electric cars come with either 12V or 24V batteries. The battery power determines both the duration and power of the vehicle. So, pick the one that fits your child’s playtime requirements.

Types

Electric cars come in a wide range of styles- sedans, trucks, dune racers, etc. Check out the various models to assess your child’s preference.  Besides the style, you also have the option of 2 WD/4WD or switchable drive. While a 2WD drive is best suited for smooth surfaces, pick a 4WD if driving outdoors.

Conclusion

The Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler Ride-On is my pick for the best electric car considering the reliability, safety, and performance it offers. Hope you find this review useful in picking an electric car for your kid!
