Battery Life

The DJI Air 3 uses a 17V Li-ion 4S intelligent flight battery with a 4241 mAh capacity. It offers 46 minutes of uninterrupted exploration as you record videos and take shots.

Factors such as high wind speed shorten the duration. As such, I recommend carrying extra batteries, which you can quickly swap and return to your flight within a minute.

The 4241 mAh 17V Li-ion 4S weighs approximately 267g, nearly half the drone’s takeoff weight, which makes it subject to the FAA registration requirements.

It takes about 80 minutes to charge the battery fully with a DJI 65W portable charger and around 60 minutes using the DJI 100W USB-C adapter and a battery charging hub.

The charging hub enhances faster charging by accommodating and charging three batteries simultaneously.

It also supports an innovative power transfer, consolidating the remaining power from two batteries in the third one. When limited charging options exist, long-press the function button to activate the power consolidation and get a fully charged battery.

Camera Quality

Air 3 has a dual-camera system featuring a wide-angle camera (1/1.3-inch CMOS) and a medium Telecamera (1/1.3-inch CMOS 3x) in a compact, sleek body.

The drone provides stunning 48MP images for remarkable crops.

Air 3 captures impressive footage enriched with details. With a video resolution of 4K (3840×2160) @24/25/30/48/50/60/100fps, its dual camera system allows you to record impressive 4K/60fps HDR videos.

The maximum video resolution of 4K/100FPS works best for slow-motion videos.

The camera also offers a stable 04 HD transmission for seamless flights. Its six-antenna array enhances video transmission, allowing you to enjoy 1080p/60fps live feeds.

DJI’s RC motion, Goggles 2, and Goggles Integra enable the Air 3 to provide an exciting first-person flight experience.

Flight Time

The 46-minute flight time is about a 48% increase from Air 3’s predecessor, Air 2S. It gives you an extended flight duration for exploration, composition adjustments, and image capturing. The drone’s maximum hovering time is 42 minutes.

However, you’ll only experience the above durations in optimum conditions; otherwise, they may be significantly shorter.

For instance, a customer reports an average flight time of 36 minutes per battery, which ‘returned home’ with 12% of the charge.

In such a case, unfavorable factors such as strong winds, obstructions, or extreme weather conditions could cause that.

Flight Range

Air 3 boasts a 20km flight range in ideal flying conditions. Its next-generation 04 HD transmission system enhances transmission performance.

Thus, the drone is ideal for extensive operations requiring more range and stability, such as search and rescue missions, surveying, and mapping.

The range is smaller in adverse conditions, such as high humidity and extreme temperatures, which negatively impacts battery performance, which in turn affects the flight distance.

Flying in areas with obstacles and magnetic interference could also impact the drone’s range.

Speed and Maneuverability

The Air 3 model’s horizontal distance is 21m/s (Sports mode) at sea level and in windless conditions. In European Union regions, the speed is 19m/s.

The ascent and descent speeds are equal at 10m/s. Its maximum wind resistance speed is 12m/s, withstanding level 6 winds.

Typically, consumer drones for photography reach a maximum speed of 20m/s, so the DJI Air 3 is slightly better. However, for most photography and videography you will be using the Cine mode for precise movements, but it helps to be fast when you need to get out of a situation.

Obstacle Avoidance

With an omnidirectional detection system, Air 3 offers a worry-free flight with enhanced safety. The sensing type consists of an omnidirectional binocular vision system boosted with an infrared bottom sensor.

An omnidirectional sensing system allows obstacle detection in all directions: Forward, backward, upward, downward, lateral, and sideways, enabling comprehensive environmental awareness.

Once the drone detects an obstacle, it uses APAS 5.0 to execute smoother avoidance movements for a safe flight experience.

Ease of Use

Air 3 is an easy-to-use unmanned aerial vehicle. Its features are user-friendly, integrate easily with an existing workflow, and offer enhanced convenience. It also has a simple and intuitive interface, while its advanced features suit beginners.

Customers are impressed by the camera and smooth controls, which offer a delightful, professional flying experience.

The advanced return-to-home function automatically plans an optimized route while retaining the omnidirectional obstacle sensing for a safe and quick home return.

Value for Money

The DJI Air 3 drone offers value for money. Its ‘fly more’ kit is excellent for extended flights, while its sensor lets you achieve a higher footage production value.

The drone has an ultra-high dual camera quality, extended flight time and range, and a standard maximum speed. It also withstands level 6 wind, fling at 12m/s.

Its 3X-zoom capabilities enable you to capture images at a safe distance where necessary.

Air 3 has a complete obstacle avoidance system, waypoints, and various intelligent features that enhance your flying experience.

What Online Customers Say:

“There are no words to describe this drone; you talk about it everywhere on the web, and in fact, I bought it for it. Absolutely the best autonomy, fantastic signal, never a drop. The 70 mm camera is a wonder; you can make videos with a unique perspective. At night, it is unparalleled, even if the sensor is under the thumb. And I would say as it is, you can already make videos without going to color correction. I already had the Air2s, which I thought was the best, but I must say that DJI made a masterpiece.”

Mavic 3 Pro has three shooting modes: Cine, Normal, and Sport. Cine mode is slower and offers minimal control sensitivity for smooth video recording.

Normal mode is more responsive and faster, while Sports mode is the fastest and operates with obstacle avoidance turned off.

Obstacle Avoidance

Mavic 3 Pro uses the omnidirectional binocular vision system to detect obstacles during flights. It also has a bottom infrared sensor to supplement the system.

The omni directional sensing system involves lateral, sideways, upward, downward, forward, and backward obstacle detection.

It utilizes APAS (Advanced Pilot Assistance System) 5.0 to detect obstacles in all directions by analyzing data from two wide-angle and six fisheye sensors.

Upon detecting the obstacle, the drone may brake or bypass it. Well-lit surroundings promote faster and smoother avoidance and safe capturing of stable footage.

Ease of Use

Compared to all other drones on this list, the Mavic 3 Pro is not the easiest to use, but anyone can manage after a few tries. What’s complex is the triple-camera setup, making it ideal for professional users.

Value for Money

The Mavic 3 Pro is the most expensive drone on this list. But considering all the features it has, it provides value for money for professionals looking for the best drone for their work, but can’t afford drones like the Inspire 2 or Inspire 3.

It provides ultra-high image quality with precise resolution and color. The drone’s tri-camera system allows you to unleash your creativity from unique perspectives and angles. You also get variable aperture which lacks in most consumer drones.

What Online Customers Say:

“I am enjoying this drone. Best I have ever had. Very easy to learn to use, and I love how easy it is to fly. I have shot several videos with it, greatly contributing to my YouTube channel.”

– Jon Strohbehn from Amazon.

Factors to Consider When Buying the Best Drone with 4K Camera

Below are essential factors to consider when buying the best drone with a 4K camera:

  • Flight time: Get a drone with a longer flight time if your intended task is extensive. Even for basic filming of 4K videos, you might need several takes, and a drone with limited flight time will not be efficient.

  • Flight range and connectivity: If you plan to operate on a vast space, go for a wide-range drone, and vice versa.

Besides flying too far from the controller, the drone also needs to have a powerful transmission since sometimes you will fly low, and in obstructed areas to get the perfect shot.

A drone that keeps disconnecting will derail your project and could crash if you forget to set appropriate safety features.

  • Portability: A lightweight, foldable drone is ideal for people who move around alot. You can just pack it together with your camera and other gear. But if it’s too large, and takes too long to set up, then it’s not ideal for videography.

  • Ease-of-use: If you’re a beginner, choose a drone that is within your skill level. Such drones as the ones in this list have easy-to-follow flying tutorials, clear instructions, and beginner-friendly features for an enhanced flying experience.

On the other hand, there are FPV drones that can shoot 4K video, but FPV has a steep learning curve. If that’s what you are looking for, check out our
    best FPV drones.

  • Price: Consider your budget and pick the drone that suits your needs and is within that range. Remember that advanced features come with an extra cost.

Conclusion

My five best drones with 4K camera reviews cover ideal models in different situations and skill levels.

DJI Air 3 is my best pick due to its excellent performance and fantastic features. It offers good footage, excellent safety features, and is well-packaged to suit most people.

The DJI Mini 4 Pro is the best option for beginners and professionals looking for a sub-250 gram drone, the Mini 4K is the best budget 4K drone, and the Mavic 3 pro is the best for professionals.
