I’ve used both the Mini 2 and Mini 3 Pro previously, and it’s pretty evident the company has done a great job in improving low-light video quality with the Mini 4 Pro. It’s less noisy and maintains great contrast, preserving details in shadows and highlights.

Emphasizing videography enthusiasts, the drone captures vibrant scenes beautifully with 4K/60fps HDR and 4K/100fps video. The 10-bit D-Log M and HLG modes offer a stunning range of colors, giving you more flexibility when editing and sharing.

For the stills, they come out detailed, thanks to the 48MP RAW capability and next-gen SmartPhoto, which combines HDR imaging and scene recognition.

The zoom feature is impressive too, with up to 3x zoom for photos and 4x zoom for videos, making distant subjects easily reachable.

Flight Time

The Mini 4 Pro is powered by a 2590mAh Intelligent Flight Battery, which translates to 34 minutes of airtime in peaceful weather conditions.

Realistically, however, you can expect around 28 minutes with the standard battery and about 36 minutes with the Plus one.

Just like the flight time, Mini 4 Pro’s flight distance varies with the battery you use with it. While the default Intelligent Flight Battery powers the drone to a distance up to 18 km, it’ll travel an additional 7 km with the upgraded battery before the signal starts to fumble.

Speed

In Sport Mode, the drone reaches 35.8 mph, while Normal and Cine Modes top out at 26.8 mph. I’m skeptical about its wind resistance, though. Despite the company’s claim of 23.9 mph, my tests showed it struggled to match it, most likely due to its lightweight design.

I still remember the wind speed on that day wasn’t much (as I was also measuring it), still, its stability continued to wobble. Hence, take care while taking out your Mini 4 Pro on a windy day.

Obstacle Avoidance

DJI has provided an all-around obstacle protection to the drone by installing high-range, precision sensors across its body. These 360° sensors, in conjunction with ActiveTrack 360°, actively track the surroundings to detect unwanted objects.

Mini 3 brings a 48MP camera with a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, dual native ISO, and chip-level HDR technology.

Although the company has kept the angle of view unchanged at 24mm, as is the case with the Mini 2, the former gathers more than twice as much light with its fixed f/1.7 aperture. And with 4x zoom, you can explore further and get an ultra-wide view of the locations before you shoot.

DJI has done a better-than-expected job on the Mini 3’s mechanical gimbal, powering it with impressive horizontal and vertical shooting capabilities.

This allows for creative shots and seamless integration into TikTok and Instagram content. The video quality is also top-notch, recording in 4K at 24 or 30fps with HDR, ensuring detailed shadows, highlights, and vibrant colors in low-lit conditions.

But here, I felt frequent breakdowns in the signal and connectivity as the drone flew farther from the RC. This wasn’t the case with the Mini 4 Pro. Also, the older DJI O2 transmission technology means the flight range is restricted to just 10 km.

Speed

Flying the Mini 3 requires great skill, as it can outpace others in the sky with its maximum speed of 35mph. Its stability and control in the windy conditions also gets it some brownie point, courtesy of Level 5 Wind Resistance rating.

Obstacle Avoidance

Mini 3 skips omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, ActiveTrack subject tracking, and APAS, which the upmarket Mini 3 Pro includes. It, however, comprises other safety features, such as the return-to-home function, FlySafe geofence system, and AirSense ADS-B sensor.

DJI introduced their Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 in 2018. An upgrade over the previous Phantom 4, this Pro V2.0 boasts some serious improvements in the camera capabilities.

The drone’s onboard camera is equipped with a 1-inch 20MP CMOS sensor and redesigned mechanical shutter.

You get the latter in Phantom 4 as well, but it didn’t work much to eliminate rolling shutter distortion. Glad the Chinese drone maker addressed this in Pro V2.0. I hate digital shutter, and you know why!

Next on the list is the drone’s ability to shoot raw stills and 4K/60p video at 100Mbps in the D-Log color profile, which videographers and photographers will surely give a thumbs up to.

The f/2.8-f/11 aperture is adjustable and provides you with the required flexibility and control while capturing aerial shots, just like the way you would want.

Flight Time

The drone’s biggest let down is its flight time, which falls in the 26-30 minutes bracket. It neither justify its gigantic size nor its hefty price tag of over $1500. Just for comparison, DJI Mini series drones cost almost half of it, and still squeeze a higher flight time.

The only thing I liked is that it sends you alerts when the battery nears a minimum safe amount required for a safe journey back to the takeoff point.

Plus, the advanced battery management system prevents overcharging and over-draining to maintain a good battery health.

Flight Distance

DJI needs to rethink the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0’s flight distance and video transmission range, both around 8-10 km. For a drone in this category, and considering the other advanced features it offers, this range feels quite limited. Don’t you agree?

I expect more extensive coverage to fully utilize its capabilities, and the current range doesn’t quite meet those expectations. In my honest opinion, enhancing this aspect could significantly improve its overall appeal.

Speed

Not three, but the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 has a myriad of flight/speed modes, namely P-mode, Atti mode, S-mode, and Tripod mode.

Outdoors, the Position (P) mode is a must try, as it allows you to use TapFly, ActiveTrack, and obstacle sensing to make flying a breeze.

If you want some serious speed and agility, the Sport (S) mode has got you covered. It lets you hit up to 45 mph, even in rough weather.

For smoother footage, especially when you want a bit of a challenge, I recommend turning to the Atti (A) mode to cut off satellite stabilization but keep altitude steady.

Last but not least, the Tripod mode is a nice add-on for indoor flying or when you need precise control. It’s the slowest of all, limiting the speed to 4 mph.

No matter the mode, the infrared sensing system and vision sensors are always on to keep your flights safe.

Obstacle Avoidance

The Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 takes your overall flight experience to the next level. This powerhouse from DJI is equipped with front, rear, and downward visual sensors, along with infrared sensors on the sides, allowing it to detect obstacles in five directions.

Parrot ANAFI isn’t a regular consumer drone. It’s a typical camera, just one with propellers.

The mechanical gimbal is really sturdy and holds back the front-mounted camera for stability, even if it’s windy around. In addition, the gimbal can rotate 180°, meaning it can shoot both straight down straight up.

Another cool feature of the ANAFI that sets it apart in the competition is its “lossless” lens for terrific zooming. With it, you can literally zoom 1.4x in 4K and 2.4x in 1080p.

Let’s now come to some negatives of the Parrot ANAFI. While the company portrays its 4K HDR video recording feature a turning point for the drone in the consumer segment, it’s more or less terrible.

That’s the right word I could think of to describe it. Just to put it in simple words, the shadows are filled with noise, highlights frequently get washed out, and the colors, especially greens and yellows, come off as unnaturally intense.

For stills, the 21MP camera of ANAFI captures amazing shots in both JPEG and Raw format.

Flight Time

Battery life is really good for the FPV drone and price point. The company claims 25 minutes of airtime per complete charge, and the best part?

It isn’t inflated, which is usually the case with many drones, including the DJI. My test flights resulted in flight times that were almost exactly what Parrot had advertised.

ANAFI’s 2700mAh capacity battery charges by a USB-C port and typically takes 2-2.5 hours for a 100% charge using the standard AC adapter.

I’ve tested my Parrot ANAFI across different locations, terrains, and weather conditions. Although there were some minor hiccups at first, apart from that, my every flight has been pretty smooth.

The connection stays strong and reliable even at long distances. Plus, the video quality doesn’t drop much, making it perfect for capturing stunning aerial shots.

Speed is the next big positive about the Parrot ANAFI, after its all-in-one camera. Don’t get fooled by its lightweight design and compact size.

It can outpace birds in flight with a speed of up to 34 m/h, and if I talk about its vertical speed, it maxes at around 9 m/h. For an FPV drone, these speeds are kind of industry standards. Plus, the “mini” drone can easily tackle wind resistance of up to 31 m/h.

Obstacle Avoidance

The ANAFI misses out on certain things, and obstacle avoidance is one of them. That’s why, although Parrot advertises the drone as beginner-friendly, I don’t think people without any experience in drone handling will be able to steer it without crashing.

DJI’s Mavic Air is a good alternative here. It just costs an extra $100, though.

But if you’ve even a few months of experience with drones, you should be good to go. The Manual and Automated flight modes will greatly assist you in navigating obstacles in your way.
