Right out of the box, I first noticed how lightweight it is, weighing just 390 grams. Despite its compact size, it offers excellent performance, making it easy to handle for long flights.

The built-in 5.5-inch FHD display is another standout feature—it’s bright and clear, even under direct sunlight, with a brightness of up to 700 nits. This means I could always see the screen clearly, no matter where I was flying, which is crucial for precise control. Isn’t it?

The next thing that attracted me was the video transmission technology. When paired with UAVs that support O3+ transmissions, like the Mavic 3, Mini 3 Pro, or Air 2S, the controller provides a low-latency HD 1080p/60fps live feed.

This really helped me maintain smoother control, specifically when flying at a distance. The transmission range of 15 km didn’t feel insufficient for my needs, allowing me to fly confidently without worrying about losing the connection.

The dual-spring control sticks were literally beyond my expectations. Making small adjustments became much easier with them, giving me complete control over the drone during technical shots.

This made flying at long distances smoother than the original DJI RC—with a low latency of just 120 ms—ensuring real-time control without any hiccups. Whether I was navigating hilly terrains or shooting wide landscapes, the video feed stayed clear and stable.

The built-in 5.5-inch high-bright display is another hit. DJI has worked a lot on it, I must say. With a brightness of 1000 nits, I could see the screen no matter the lighting conditions.

I had the chance to try my friend’s DJI RC Motion 2, and I instantly decided to get one of my own. 

This sleek controller offers motion-sensing technology that lets you control the drone with just a slight turn of your wrist. It’s perfect for beginners, but even as an experienced pilot, I enjoyed how quickly I could adapt to its motion-based controls.

Once paired with the DJI Avata and
DJI Goggles N3, for example, the drone responds directly to my hand movements, making me feel like I was actually in the pilot’s seat, which wasn’t the case! 

The design is super comfortable for long flights, as it’s optimized for single-handed use. I could take off, land, accelerate, and even move left or right without adjusting my grip.

This ease of control made navigating tight spaces and complex maneuvers with
RC Motion 2 much easier. The upgraded joystick provides next-level control, which was helpful when performing precise actions like darting left or right.

The reverse function on the accelerator was also a fantastic addition—being able to fly backward in tight situations without making a sharp U-turn saved me a lot of time and hassle.

Another feature I found useful was the FN dial. It allowed me to adjust the camera’s ISO, shutter speed, and other settings on the fly, all without needing to reach up to the goggles. This really helped me stay focused on the flight when trying to get the perfect shot. 

With 5 hours of runtime and a 10 km transmission range, I had plenty of time and distance to explore and create. It’s also super lightweight at just 170g, so I didn’t feel fatigued even during long sessions.

The DJI RC Motion 2 is purpose-built for both beginners and experienced pilots alike. Its motion controls and well-balanced joystick make it easy to maneuver, while the long runtime and sturdy design ensure you can focus on flying, not fiddling with buttons. This controller truly enhances my flying experience, no matter if I’m capturing a cinematic shot or just exploring the skies from my roof.

What moved me the most was the new O4 video transmission system. Paired with compatible drones like the DJI Air 3 and new palm-size DJI Neo, this system ensures that you get crystal-clear, low-latency video even at a distance of up to 20 km.

The 2T4R antenna system, featuring internal and external antennas, boosts signal strength and keeps the connection strong even during longer flights, ensuring smooth control and safe operation.

This proves helpful when piloting over large areas where a stable connection is more than necessary.

The powerful processor inside the DJI RC 2 makes everything run smoothly. I’ve noticed that apps load faster, and there’s no lag when adjusting settings or controlling the drone.

It’s intuitive, responsive, and easy to use, ideal for newcomers and seasoned pilots. Plus, with 32GB of built-in storage, I can store recordings directly on the controller, and if I need more space, the microSD card slot gives me the option for additional storage.

Despite all these impressive features, it remains lightweight at just 420 grams, which makes extended use much more comfortable. I could fly for hours without feeling tired or uncomfortable.

Comfort is the ultimate king. That said, the controller should fit comfortably in your hands, with buttons and joysticks that are easy to reach and press without straining.

A lightweight model, maybe weighing less than a pound, works great for such scenarios and makes it easy to enjoy the hike without feeling weighed down. 

Foldable remote controllers with removable parts like antennas are the best. 

Compatibility

Not all drone controllers work with every drone model, so compatibility is crucial. 

Always check that the controller you’re considering supports your specific drone. Many controllers are designed for certain brands or models, like DJI or Autel, so it becomes important to see if your drone is listed among supported ones. 

If you own more than one drone, it’s a bonus if the controller works with most of them, if not all. This will save you a lot of bucks, as you won’t need to buy individual controllers for each.
